Dear Readers,
Welcome to the 2022–23 issue of Torch magazine! This is our second digital issue and we hope you, our readers, are enjoying this new format. Change can take time to get used to, but we feel good about our decision to go paperless, as it increases our reach and reduces our environmental impact.
This past fall, the Communications & Marketing team was excited to launch our 2022–23 ad campaign with the theme “What Progress Looks Like.” Our series of four ads features students exploring their passions: whether it’s discovering the world through STEM, learning to play a concerto on the violin, working as a team on the ice or developing the self-confidence to handle any situation, our students know they are surrounded by a supportive and caring community at Havergal.

In support of this campaign, the 2022–23 issue of Torch magazine continues to tell Havergal’s story of progress by outlining the subtle ways in which the school is evolving. This includes investments in our academic and co-curricular programming to support student personalization, modernizing our events, providing more opportunities for student-led initiatives, and modelling self-reflection and growth.
In this issue, we hope you enjoy reading about how Havergal’s values (Integrity, Inquiry, Compassion and Courage) help guide the school’s administrators in their decision-making process in our Feature Story “Building on Traditions—Making Progressive Strides”; learning about Havergal’s approach to building personal and social skills in the Message from the Heads of Schools “Developing the Self-confidence of Our Future Leaders”; hearing from our students about the Havergal value that resonates the most with them in our “Students Speak” section; meeting our School Captain Claire Radin and learning about her self-confidence journey; and seeing photos, videos and student artwork from this school year on our “Snapshots” page.
Torch magazine is published annually and couldn’t be accomplished without the help and support of so many people connected to Havergal College. We would also like to thank you, our readers, for taking the time to connect with us through Torch magazine. Your feedback is important to us. Please share your comments with us at communications@havergal.on.ca.
Happy reading!
